Continuous Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Monitoring

Learn More

OUR PURPOSE

The Problem

Blood pressure is a biological parameter that can constantly fluctuate. It can be monitored intermittently using blood pressure cuffs, however, important data and signs can go unnoticed. On the other hand, blood pressure can be monitored continuously via arterial line cannulation, however, this method is costly, invasive, and can lead to increased health complications such as blood vessel damage or infection.

The Clinical Need

High blood pressure is related to three of the leading causes of death in America: heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. As of 2017, almost half of the American population (roughly 108 million) had high blood pressure. There is a lack of technology available to individuals for monitoring their blood pressure continously in a noninvasive and affordable way, and prevent the development of diseases related to high blood pressure.

Our Solution

Our team hopes to address the issues with current blood pressure monitoring technologies and save millions of lives by integrating the Vena Vitals blood pressure sensor with a single-lead wrist based ECG device to calculate pulse transit time and provide continuous blood pressure data in real time.

PRODUCT

Our device will allow for continuous monitoring of blood pressure through a noninvasive measure. This is accomplished with the use of two main components: a blood pressure sensor and a single-lead wrist electrocardiogram (ECG). Additionally, we are working to create a foot form factor for the blood pressure sensor that records signal from the dorsalis pedis artery.

Blood Pressure Sensor

This adhesive sensor obtains BP indirectly through capacitance generated from the sensor structure compressing.

Foot Form Factor

The foot form factor provides an alternative signal acquisition location where interference from muscle contractions can be better accounted for in comparison to the multiplanar movements at the wrist.

MARKET STRATEGY

Large market size

Almost half of adults in the US have high blood pressure. Over a billion people worldwide.

Competitive pricing

The products are priced under the competition, but still profitable in the long term.

Sales plan

Clients are hospitals and anesthesiologists who have an urgent need for BP monitors.

Projected revenue

The projected revenue is over $120 million in 2025.
